Best Gluten-Free Bakeries in CT

Gluten-free bakeries are hard to come by. After all, wheat is the primary ingredient in cupcakes, cookies, and other baked goods.

If you’re looking for the best gluten-free bakeries in CT, this list is for you. The good news is that the Nutmeg state has plenty of options – regardless of your location.

As with any restaurant, avoiding cross-contamination is not guaranteed. Make sure to use your best judgment if you have a severe gluten intolerance.

LuAnn’s Bakery (Ellington)

Location238 Somers Road, Ellington, CT
Websiteluannsbakery.com

The first time we tried LuAnn’s was actually at the Big E (a fair that has a surprising amount of gluten-free food). LuAnn’s sells donuts, cupcakes, brownies, muffins, and other pastries.

Drop in their brick-and-mortar store in Ellington, where all the baked goods are made in a dedicated gluten-free facility. You can also find them at the Ellington farmer’s market, which runs every Saturday from May through October.

Dee’s One Smart Cookie (Glastonbury)

Location103 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury, CT
Websitehttps://www.deesonesmartcookie.com/

Dee’s is our local, gluten-free bakery, and we can’t say enough good things about it. They have muffins, cookies, cupcakes, doughnuts, bars, squares, and more.

Check out Dee’s Facebook page for an updated daily menu. We recommend calling ahead of time to place an order because their delicious treats will not last!

By the Way Bakery (Greenwich)

Location19 East Putnam Avenue Greenwich, CT
Websitehttps://www.btwbakery.com/

Everything is made by hand at this gluten-free bakery in small batches. By the Way Bakery has fruit muffins (with actual fruit) and lemon layer cake with real zest combined with homemade lemon curd.

Buying baked goods on their website is easy, where you can place orders beforehand. Just ensure you’re selecting the Greenwich location because they have multiple New York stores.

Young Buns Doughnuts (Mystic)

Location46 West Main Street, Mystic, CT
Websiteyoungbunsdoughnuts.com

There are plenty of gluten-free restaurants in Mystic, and we had to include a bakery on this list. I don’t know what it is about this area, but these people sure do love GF!

Drop in early to secure fresh, homemade doughnuts made from scratch (the cinnamon sugar doughnut holes were delicious). Just know that YBD is not a dedicated gluten-free bakery.

The Cake Box (Ridgefield)

Location27 Main St, Ridgefield, CT
Websitehttps://www.ctcakebox.com/

The Cake Box makes everything fresh daily in their shop. They have a long list of gluten-free pies, cakes, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, cookie dough, and more.

If you’re not local, we highly recommend checking out their website before you visit or calling ahead. They often have seasonal items that might not be listed on their online menu, plus it’s always good to place an order ahead of time.

Mozzicato Bakery (Multiple Locations)

LocationHartford, Plainville, Wallingford, Middletown, Rocky Hill
Websitehttps://www.mozzicatobakery.com/

Mozzicato De Pasquale Bakery has been a family-owned Italian bakery (based in Hartford) since 1973. Although not a dedicated gluten-free bakery, they do have a handful of options for you to choose from.

I imagine the menu might be different at each location, but we were able to find gluten-free cheesecake in Wallingford. The Amaretti cookies are also gluten-free because they’re made with almond flour.

Still Delicious (Westport)

Location13 Boston Post Rd, Westbrook, CT
Websitehttp://www.stilldelicious.com/

Still Delicious is a dedicated allergy-friendly bakery that provides items without gluten, corn, soy, or nuts. Remember that some of their food is made-to-order, so you might want to place an order ahead of time if there’s something specific you want.

If not, their bakery shop is always open for walk-in purchases during operating hours. Here, you can find cakes, pastries, bread, cookies, cupcakes, and so much more on their menu.

Mr. D’s (Wallingford)

Location50 N Main St, Wallingford, CT
Websitegetmrds.com

Mr. D’s is not a dedicated gluten-free bakery. But they do have some of the best GF cupcakes around. When we dropped by, nothing was marked GF. We asked an employee who worked there, and they told us everything was kept separate in the back.

They had several options, but we chose lemon, red velvet, and chocolate. The cupcakes by themselves were super moist (rare for GF), but the frosting was the best part!

Cake Gypsy (Avon & Canton)

Location35 East Main Street Avon, CT and 250 Albany Turnpike Canton, CT
Websitehttps://www.cakegypsy.com/

Cake Gypsy is not a dedicated gluten-free bakery, but they do offer many GF flavors. Because they have two locations, it’s a good idea to call ahead first to learn about their gluten-free options.

Birthday cake, cafe mocha, chocolate lover, coconut cream pie, hot fudge Sunday, peanut butter & jelly, red velvet, salted caramel, and lemon blueberry are some gluten-free flavors.

Pure Love Bakery (Avon)

Location136 Simsbury Rd #16, Avon, CT
Websitehttps://www.purelovegranola.com/

Pure Love Bakery is a hidden gem located in Avon. I say hidden gem because it’s tucked away in the Riverdale Farms Shopping Center, making it easy to miss from Route 202.

This dedicated gluten-free facility sells brownies, donuts, blondies, muffins, whoopie pies, and more. Expect a long line on weekends, so get there early to secure your favorite baked goods.
