Gluten-Free Newport, RI Guide

My wife and I always enjoy visiting Newport, Rhode Island. I even asked her to marry me here back in 2018. But we’ll save that romantic love story for another day.

It’s fair to say that this waterfront city has a special place in our hearts, and there are some incredible gluten-free restuarants to check out.

Newport has everything from gluten-free lobster rolls (with ocean views) to delicious baked goods. It all depends on what you’re in the mood for.

I want to point out that these are not the only gluten-free restaurants in Newport, RI. There are plenty of great places to eat, and reviewing them all would take weeks.

As with any restaurant, avoiding cross-contamination is not guaranteed. Make sure to use your best judgment if you have a severe gluten intolerance.

Breakfast

Drift Cafe

The Nitro Bar

  • 404 Thames St, Newport, RI 02840

I’m a big fan of cold brew. But this place also has gluten-free bread for breakfast sandwiches. It’s the best way to start your morning in Newport.

Kaffeology

  • 359 Thames St, Newport, RI 02840

Kaffeology was super busy when we dropped in one morning. But we found some delicious raspberry almond shortbread and a handful of other GF baked goods.

Lunch & Dinner

We ate at The Reef one night, with a beautiful waterfront view. Many items on the menu can be made GF, including clam chowder, lobster rolls, and French fries.

We stopped by Thai Cuisine one night for takeout and brought it back to our Airbnb. The restaurant menu states that many items can be made GF, so check before ordering.

Wally’s Wieners

  • 464 Thames St, Newport, RI 02840

Anyone who follows a gluten-free diet knows how it’s nearly impossible to find hot dogs with gluten-free buns. If that’s your thing, stop by Wally’s Weiners on Thames Street.

O’Brien’s Pub

  • 501 Thames St, Newport, RI 02840

Pubs aren’t exactly known for an extensive gluten-free menu. But O’Brien’s offers GF pizza, pan-seared salmon, chicken saute, and several other options.

Diego’s is located in the heart of Bowen’s Wharf and has an accommodating gluten-free menu. We enjoyed tacos, quesadillas, chips, salsa, and guacamole.

Dessert
