Gluten-Free Block Island Guide

My wife and I have visited Block Island almost every year since 2014. To say that we like the place would be an understatement.

Whether you’re coming here for a day trip or a week-long vacation, there are plenty of things to do and places to eat – that’s why you’re here, right?

Listed below are some of our favorite gluten-free restaurants on Block Island. They range from casual to fancy, so there’s something for everyone!

As with any restaurant, avoiding cross-contamination is not guaranteed. Make sure to use your best judgment if you have a severe gluten intolerance.

Gluten-Free Restaurants on Block Island

All of these restaurants are located in New Shoreham. This is the only town on Block Island.

Fun Fact: New Shoreham is the smallest town in the smallest state in the United States. Now let’s get to the list!

Persephone’s Kitchen

  • 235 Dodge St, New Shoreham, RI 02807

If you’re craving sweets, look no further than Persephone’s Kitchen. A line was out the door when we dropped by for gluten-free strawberry almond muffins, banana bread, and brownies.

The National Hotel

  • 36 Water St, New Shoreham, RI 02807

We went here for dinner one night and they had a handful of GF options. Chicago dip, peel-and-eat shrimp, swordfish, lobster, and gluten-free penne with claims.

1661 Inn

  • 43 Spring St, New Shoreham, RI 02807

The 1661 Inn has a fantastic breakfast buffet spread. They have a selection of eggs, bacon, sausage, salmon, breakfast potatoes, salad, fruit, yogurt, and Udi’s GF bagels.

Mohegan Restaurant and Bar

Another popular eatery on Water Street is the Mohegan Restaurant and Bar. We stopped here for lunch and enjoyed gluten-free chicken wings! They also have salad if you’re into healthy eating.

Aldo’s Bakery

  • 130 Chapel St, New Shoreham, RI 02807

This was our go-to spot for gluten-free dessert (and yes, we ate dessert every night). Stop by Aldo’s for ice cream, gelato, and even GF cookies.

Ballard’s Beach Resort

Ballard’s is the place to be if you want to dine on the beach. Regarding gluten-free options, they offer steamers, salad, lobster, GF rolls, and GF pasta.

The Lunch-Bucket

Bonus points for using regular-size GF bread!
  • 30 Water St #101, New Shoreham, RI 02807

This place can be easy to miss (it’s right next to the bookstore). They have GF bread and rolls for sandwiches, which you can enjoy with mahi-mahi, chicken, eggs, and bacon.

The Spring House

The Spring House is one of the most iconic hotels on Block Island. On our last night here, we ate on the deck (with a beautiful waterfront view) and enjoyed gluten-free scallops and salmon.
