Gluten-Free Martha’s Vineyard Guide
Are you planning a trip to Martha’s Vineyard? Maybe you’re already on the island searching for safe places to eat.
We’ve got you covered. There are plenty of gluten-free restaurants scattered across this popular tourist destination.
For over a week, my wife and I traveled around Martha’s Vineyard looking for these places. In the sections below, you will find each restaurant categorized by town.
As with any restaurant, avoiding cross-contamination is not guaranteed. Make sure to use your best judgment if you have a severe gluten intolerance.
Vineyard Haven
The Attic
- 82 Main St 2nd Floor, Vineyard Haven, MA
This might be the most gluten-friendly restaurant in Vineyard Haven. Our waiter told us they use GF flour and have a GF fryer. Their boneless wings and fried cheese curds are insane!
Black Dog Tavern
- 20 Beach Street Extension, Vineyard Haven, MA
If you’re looking for a classic dining experience by the water, this is it! We went here for breakfast for eggs, bacon, and gluten-free bread.
Rocco’s Pizza
- Tisbury Marketplace, 79 Beach Rd, Vineyard Haven, MA
If you’re a fan of gluten-free pizza, you can’t go wrong with this restaurant. They also have a handful of salad options for healthier eating.
Scottish Bakehouse
- 977 State Rd, Vineyard Haven, MA
We highly recommend visiting the Scottish Bakehouse for gluten-free baked goods. Make sure to stop by in the morning, before all the treats are picked over.

Staying somewhere with a kitchen? Stop by the Net Result for lobster, mussels, claims, and other seafood. FYI, there are no GF options on their takeout menu.

French Bakery has a wide selection of GF sweets. When we stopped by they were selling lemon meringue tart, chocolate cheesecake, raspberry cheesecake, and flourless chocolate torte.
La Choza
- 4 Main St, Tisbury, MA
La Choza is a casual restaurant with savory Mexican food. Opt for a rice bowl (instead of a flour wrapped burrito) to keep your meal gluten-free.
Mocha Mott’s

FYI, Mocha Mott’s has two locations on the island (more on that below). In Vineyard Haven we found gluten-free sea salt caramel blondies, coconut almond bread, and zucchini bread.

There’s not a ton of options at this casual coffee spot. But there are a few gluten-free specials and salads. You also might be able to find some baked goods.
Oak Bluffs
Back Door Donuts

Gluten-free donuts are hard to come by, so take note of this place. When we stopped by they had GF chocolate frosted donuts and GF Boston cream donuts.
MV Salads
- 55 Circuit Ave, Oak Bluffs, MA
If you’re looking for a fresh and healthy dining experience on the island, this is it. MV Salads has plenty of gluten-free options on their menu.

Who doesn’t love pasta? This Italian restaurant offers some of the best gluten-free pasta on Martha’s Vineyard. Check with your server about other options.

All salads can be prepared gluten-free. Plus, Offshore Ale has pizza with cauliflower crust! You can also find a few more GF options on the appetizer menu.

- 6 Circuit Avenue Extension, Oak Bluffs, MA
You can grab a bowl of gluten-free New England clam chowder at this casual restaurant. More option include a tuna poke bowl, Mexican street corn, and grilled oysters.
Mocha Mott’s
- 10 Circuit Ave, Oak Bluffs, MA
This is the second Mocha Mott’s location on the island. Baked goods will change each day, but we found GF blondies, zucchini bread, almond bread, and sunflower bars.
Sharky’s Cantina
- 31 Circuit Ave, Oak Bluffs, MA
This is a casual Mexican restaurant located in the heart of Oak Bluffs. Talk with your server about what can be made GF (such as rice bowls and salads).

Coffee places can be a hit or miss when it comes to finding gluten-free food. But you might be able to grab some GF baked goods at Toccopuro, depending on the day.

- 19 Circuit Ave, Oak Bluffs, MA
Most brands of frozen yogurt are naturally gluten-free, but you can always check with a staff member. Just be aware of any gluten containing toppings.

This is not a dedicated gluten-free facility. But the roasted boneless half chicken can be made gluten-free and you can order flourless chocolate torte for dessert.

At first glance you might not think this restaurant has much to offer. But the waitstaff is very knowledgeable about what can be made gluten-free.

There are plenty of breakfast options at this cafe. Eggs, breakfast bowl, yogurt bowl (no granola), smoothies, salads, and some GF baked goods depending on the day.
Mad Martha’s
- 7 N Water St, Edgartown, MA
If you’re looking for dessert, you can’t go wrong with gluten-free ice cream from Mad Martha’s. They have three locations on the island (Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, and Vineyard Haven).
Chilmark General Store
- 7 State Rd, Chilmark, MA
The Chilmark General Store deserves its own category, because… well it’s not really close to anything. Most people stop here on the way back from Aquinnah and Menemsha.
The good news is, this place has a handful of gluten-free lunch options. They have GF buns for sandwiches, chicken fingers, assorted salads, and even GF pizza crust!
We even found gluten-free chocolate chip bread. This can be a lifesaver, considering all the other restaurants are in the more popular towns.
